  9. RUBICON PUBLISHER is distributed as "SHAREWARE". Under the Shareware
  10. concept, copies of program disks are freely circulated among computer
  11. users, so that they can become acquainted with the program at no charge.
  12. Funding for development of Shareware software is collected by the HONOUR
  13. SYSTEM--actual users of the program pay the requested licence fee. This
  14. fee is much lower than the price of comparable commercial software. It
  15. is the user who ultimately pays for excess advertising and dealer mark-
  16. ups. (Advertising budgets often exceed development costs by a ratio of
  17. 10 to 1.) Remember too, that successful shareware companies help lower
  18. the prices of regular commercial software by providing healthy competi-
  19. tion. By remitting the licence fees for all shareware programs that you
  20. actually use, you can help ensure the continued supply of good quality
  21. software at reasonable prices.

  23. If you find the RUBICON PUBLISHER useful, you may purchase a licence for
  24. $89.00 US. You will receive the printed reference manual, which provides
  25. full documentation of all features of the Publisher, together with a
  26. glossary of technical terms, a quick reference guide, numerous worked
  27. examples, and much other useful information which would not fit in the
  28. abbreviated instruction manual included with the Shareware distribution
  29. files. You will also receive a distribution copy of the version of the
  30. Publisher current at the time of registration, with Landscape as well as
  31. Portrait soft fonts. For a period of one year, you will be notified of
  32. program updates, and may purchase them for $15.00 US. Please use the
  33. licence registration form provided as SAMPLE_5.

  35. We encourage users to make as many evaluation copies of the RUBICON
  36. PUBLISHER disks as they like, and to pass them on to all interested
  37. parties. Please do not copy the printed reference manual.

  41.                              INSTALLATION
  42.  
  43. The RUBICON PUBLISHER distribution files include INSTALL.EXE, an inter-
  44. active program for installing the software on your hard disk, and
  45. configuring it for your hardware setup.  
  46.  
  47. Instructions on how to use the Installation Program are given in Section
  48. 1 of the Instruction Manual, which is in file MANUAL.1.
  49.  
  50. The other sections of the Instruction Manual are contained in files
  51. MANUAL.2, MANUAL.3,... MANUAL.8 and MANUAL.APP, which will appear
  52. automatically in the directory RUBICON which will be created on your
  53. hard disk when you run the installation program.

  57.                               WHAT TO DO
  58.  
  59. 1. Retrieve and read file MANUAL.1.
  60.  
  61. 2. Install the publisher and soft fonts (if required) on your hard disk
  62. by running the INSTALL program in accordance with the instructions in
  63. Section 1.2 of the Manual (in file MANUAL.1).

  65. 3. Retrieve and read files MANUAL.2, MANUAL.3,...MANUAL.8 from the new
  66. directory RUBICON on your hard disk. 
  67.  
  68. 4. To get a feel for the program, PUBlish specimen text files SAMPLE_1,
  69. SAMPLE_2, ... SAMPLE_5, which you will find on the RUBICON directory.
  70. Note: SAMPLE_4 is the table of contents for the instruction manual;
  71. SAMPLE_5 is the licence registration form.

  73. To PUBlish these files:
  74.      (a) Make sure your laser printer is ready and on line;
  75.      (b) change to the directory RUBICON (if you are not already there);
  76.      (c) enter the command: 
  77.                                   PUB SAMPLE_1

  79.      (d) Wait for Sample_1 to be printed out, and examine the results.

  81.      (e) Repeat steps (c) and (d) for SAMPLE_2, SAMPLE_3, SAMPLE_4 and
  82.      SAMPLE_5.

  84. Remember to BE PATIENT: the Publisher generally requires AT LEAST ONE
  85. AND ONE-HALF MINUTES of processing time, before it starts to print, and
  86. may require SEVERAL MINUTES, depending on the complexity of the document
  87. being published, and the hardware setup being used. During much of this
  88. processing time, the Publisher may not appear to be doing anything.  If
  89. you are worried that the program may not really be running, we suggest
  90. that you make use of the run-time switch "/T" to invoke the "Tracers"
  91. option, as described in Section 2.4 of the Manual.
